OLD DOGS – Kayla

Kayla is a 17-year-old husky/retriever mix. She lost her eyesight to cataracts two years ago, and her hearing followed shortly thereafter. Yet she navigated the studio with ease and took direction like a pro.

This past February I escaped the “Polar Vortex” and fled to Thailand with some close friends for some sun, fun, great food and portraits. They were kind enough to humor me while I chased the light and made some beautiful portraits. I will roll out a few new images from Thailand in the coming days, so stay tuned!

Old Dogs – Hera

Hera is a beautiful 9-year-old mutt. Her owner Matt suspects she is a pitbull/shepherd mix, while others think there might be a dingo in there somewhere. She was a great subject to photograph, when she didn’t have her back to the camera.

Monica and I journeyed up to Montreal in December for our anniversary and stayed at the Le Meridien, a boutique hotel on Sherbrooke Ouest. I’ve taken numerous pictures of Monica all over the world, but those always had an air of adventure to them, and were done with minimal equipment. Our room at Le Meridien was the perfect setting for a more stylized portrait, with funky wallpapers and a hanging disco ball lamp. These are the first (and my favorites) of a few more to come!

Old Dogs – Gina

Gina is a thirteen-year-old poodle, now officially retired from a lifetime career as a therapy dog for the elderly. We had to wrangle her a bit when she went off-leash in the studio; but because of her therapy training, the leash meant business and she magically became obedient when it went on. These are my favorites from the shoot. I love the stately poodle profile!

Sully is a 16 year old farm dog who spends most of his time down by the Intervale farm in Winooski.

Max is a exuberant 12 year old yellow/golden lab mix. Despite his age, he still acts and feels very much like a puppy. In his youth, he used to wag his tail so hard that he ended up breaking it on multiple occasions. Finally the vet determined that he would be better off without his tail, but you would be amazed how fervently he can wag that little stump!

Old Dogs – Oliver

Oliver is a 5 year-old Mastiff/Great Dane mix. 5 might not sound very old to you, but for a dog his size it is. Large dogs like this usually only live to be about 8. Fun fact: we, literally, had to mop the studio floor after this guys visit. The slobbering was unbelievable!

Cokie is a 11 year old Shepard, the runt of the litter. The first thing she did when she came into the studio was to immediately curl up on the comfiest dog bed and wait until she was needed.
